🔺 Day 1: Tokyo to Yunishigawa Onsen

Our first stop is Kinugawa and Ryuo Gorge, a 3-kilometer-long ravine that resembles a dragon writhing through the landscape. After a leisurely walk to enjoy the impressive views from Musasabi Bridge, local shrines and waterfalls, we head to Yunishigawa Onsen. This historic hot spring is nestled deep in the mountains, where the Heike clan once discovered the healing waters. After relaxing in the onsen, we’ll enjoy a traditional charcoal-grilled dinner by the hearth, featuring local delicacies.

Tonight’s accommodation is at Naruko Onsen, one of the top three famous hot springs in the Tohoku region.

We visit the iconic Risshaku-ji Temple, also known as “Yamadera.” Set against a backdrop of stunning rock formations, this sacred mountain temple is steeped in history and offers a spiritual experience as we climb the 1,015 stone steps to the inner sanctuary. The breathtaking views and the serenity of the temple grounds are worth the effort. Our journey continues with a ride through Aizu’s scenic roads before arriving at Ashinomaki Onsen for a relaxing night.
